On Monday, 11 May 2026, Ambassador Dong-han Yang attended the handover ceremony for medical diagnostics devices (ultraporatble X-rays) as part of the Embassy's small-scale official assistance development project, held at the Medical Bureau for Occupational Diseases, Department of Health.
Ambassador Yang stated that the project marks a significant milestone in the flourishing and mutually beneficial partnership between the two countries, expressing his hope that it will contribute to South Africa's diagnostic capabilities and socio-economic development.
Honourable Aaron Motsoaledi, South Africa's Minister of Health, expressed deep gratitude for the South Korean government’s support, noting that the donated equipment will play a vital role in the South African government's efforts to eradicate tuberculosis and other communicable diseases.
The donated ultraportable X-ray devices are Korean products recognised for their high mobility and exceptional accuracy. This equipment is expected to strengthen South Africa's diagnostic capabilities in remote mining communities and underserved regions, helping to prevent the spread of communicable diseases such as tuberculosis, and ultimately bolstering the nation's public health system.
